    awareness can have major commercial advantages

    Jacques Larivière, 57, is no longer a frustrated chartered accountant.

    These days, the president of Demilec Inc. is smiling because he's achieved his aim of going green while earning gold.

    Larivière was recently named Quebec Entrepreneur of the Year for developing an innovative company that is both profitable and environmentally sustainable.

    "It all began when I got sick of writing business plans for other people and then disappearing," he says. "So I started my own company to see if I could go further than just producing an intellectual exercise with a list of recommendations."

    The Montreal-area businessman bought a small plant in 1983 and built it into one of Canada's fastest-growing manufacturers and marketers of urethane foam insulation. Starting with four workers, Demilec has grown into a multimillion-dollar enterprise with 120 employees, a branch facility in Texas and customers in 15 countries. more...
